Published on: 24-02-2010

Labour broke privacy laws by bombarding voters with "spam" calls featuring Coronation Street's Vera Duckworth, a watchdog ruled recently.

The recorded message from veteran soap actress and Labour supporter Liz Dawn hit almost 500,000 homes during local and Euro elections last year.

The Information Commissioner slapped an "enforcement notice" on Labour.

The Tories, LibDems and SNP were also rapped for "robocalling", as it is known in the US.
